This is a very popular course for all bodyworkers, healers and massage therapists. A wide variety of techniques are practiced to release tension and open energy in this part of the body. Thai herbal balms and waters are used for some of the neck and face techniques.

Note: Class size is limited to achieve the highest quality instruction and guidance for all students. A second identical course will be offered the following week if necessary, to accommodate all those who wish to attend.

Thai Techniques for Shoulders, Neck, Head & Face

The techniques and concepts practiced in this course help to relieve stress and tension in the upper body; the back, shoulder blades, shoulders, neck, head and face, and the Thai techniques and strategies may also be used by table workers. Working on floor mats in four body positions, we explore a wide variety of techniques using feet, palms, forearms, elbows, palms, thumbs and fingers to release pockets of tension through stretches, compressions, acupressure, and opening techniques. We also review and refine upper body sen (energy lines), and traditional Thai techniques for the shoulders, upper back, and neck, many of which can be adapted to table work. Finally, a wide variety of manual techniques and pressure points for the head and face are presented, many of which are not taught in general massage and bodywork classes.

Thai herbal balms and waters are used for some of the face and neck techniques, and Thai rituals are explained and practiced. Formulas and ways to make herbal balms are discussed, and participants have ample time to give and receive each day. This is always an enjoyable workshop because the mood is meditative, and because everyone loves to receive work on their shoulders, neck, head and face. Some previous experience in Thai massage is helpful, but not necessary. Massage therapists, yoga practitioners, healers, singles, and couples are welcome. Start time each day is 9 a.m. Please join us for this exciting, fun and relaxing workshop !

About Our Teacher

Bob Haddad is one of the most well known Western teachers of traditional Thai massage, and an acclaimed author on the subject of Thai healing arts. The book “Thai Massage & Thai Healing Arts” was released in 2014, and his second book, “The Art of Thai Massage” was released in 2022. Bob has written magazine articles, and has done podcasts and radio interviews on the topics of Thai massage and Thai healing arts.

Biography and Study:  Bob began his first studies in Thai therapy in 1999, after other careers as a language teacher, musician, and world music producer. He was gradually drawn into the depths of Thai healing arts as he studied with a variety of teachers.

In his study and work in traditional Thai therapies, Bob has learned that nuad boran is inextricably connected to Buddhist healing traditions and Thai spiritual and cultural values, and that to practice it outside of these contexts, as a mechanical form of body therapy and assisted yoga, generally results in reduced healing effects.

Bob has studied with many teachers over the years, but he has been most influenced by Ajahn Pichest Boonthumme, with whom he has studied for many years, and by the late Asokonanda (Harald Brust). He also studied with Chongkol Setthakorn at ITM School; at Nerve Touch, Lanna Thai School and the Old Medicine Hospital; and with Pikul Termyod, Nit Chaimongkon; Lek Chaiya; Pojanart (Jack) Paenthai; Ajahn Sinchai Sukparset, and several important Western teachers.

In 2005 he founded Thai Healing Alliance International (THAI), a non-profit network of professionals who aspire to basic standards of study and practice of traditional Thai healing arts. Bob offers courses and gives presentations on Thai healing arts to therapists, students and to the general public. He is passionate about working within traditional Thai guidelines, and he integrates Thai medicinal herbs and herbal compresses into his work with clients and students. Bob teaches courses and workshops in the USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and in Thailand.
